Our staff of pet care experts provides the services your pet needs while you’re away. On work days and during vacations alike, Healthy Hounds & Fat Cats loves taking care of your pets as much as you do.
Day Care
Healthy Hounds & Fat Cats is Durango’s original and premier doggy day care. We specialize in safe, appropriate play time. Good manners and basic training is always reinforced. Groups are always supervised by our highly trained staff. We have three back yards, an indoor playroom, jungle gyms to climb or sunbathe on, and even a wading pool in the summer! Dogs are placed in energy and size appropriate play groups.
In town to ride the world renowned Durango Silverton Narrow Guage Train? We can take care of your pet for the day! We offer extended hours and other options to accommodate the regular summer train schedule (with advance reservation). Please understand that if the train is late, your pet may need to spend the night; bring appropriate food and medications just in case.
Of course, Healthy Hounds & Fat Cats also cares for your pets during the work day. Please note: Colorado State law requires all pets must be current on all vaccines including Bordetella., Distemper, Parvo, and Rabies. Please provide proof from your veterinarian at drop-off.
Daycare Drop-Off and Pick-Up Times
- Monday-Friday 7 am to 6 pm
- Saturday 8 am to 4:45 pm
- Sunday 8 am to 9am, and 11 am to 4:45 pm

IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON RIDING THE TRAIN OR TAKING A TOUR AT MESA VERDE PLEASE CALL US FIRST TO CHECK AVAILABILITY. WE HAVE VERY LIMITED AVAILABILITY SO RECOMMEND CHECKING WITH US BEFORE BUYING EXPENSIVE TOURS. WE ARE HAPPY TO ADJUST YOUR RESERVATION IF NEEDED.

Healthy Hounds & Fats Cats require all pets to have a release form on file prior to beginning their first day with us. After their first day, we will ask that you keep these forms updated should any information change, and we will notify you of any policy changes.
Boarding
Overnight guests rest on comfy cots at night. We provide super soft shearling or you are welcome to bring your own bedding. Our guests dine on high quality chicken and rice kibble, or we are happy to serve any meal you provide. Please note there are no charges for “extras”. We don’t feel that exercise, attention, medicines, or the goodwill of a treat should be an extra charge. Healthy Hounds & Fat Cats also performs a late evening potty break and wellness check for all or our valued canine guests.
Feline guests enjoy large private condos with windows and kitty perches, and the same special attention to diet and medication. Each cat also has private time on the custom kitty porch (weather permitting). PROOF OF UP TO DATE VACCINES MUST BE PROVIDED FOR ALL PETS.
Dog Rates
Dogs staying after 1pm be charged for 1/2 day of daycare.
Dogs staying 6 or more consecutive nights receive a complimentary bath before going home. Dogs staying 8 or more consecutive nights receive a 10% discount on their stay. You are welcome to provide your dog’s regular diet and night-time bed.
Cat Rates
Cats staying with us 8 or more consecutive nights receive a 10% discount on their stay. You are welcome to provide your cat’s regular diet and nighttime bed.
